Project Overview:

Founded in 1885, the institute is located in Novara on the edge of the historic city center and occupies a site of considerable size.

The seismic retrofitting project involved extensive structural reinforcement works, necessitated by both the complexity of the building and the variety of construction techniques found within the school premises—including masonry, steel, reinforced concrete, and timber elements.

All consolidation systems were designed in compliance with the heritage protection constraints. Steel fiber reinforcements applied to masonry are fully reversible, allowing for future removal should structural modifications be required. The steel beams installed to reinforce the existing floor slabs are also demountable and recoverable. Likewise, the new laminated timber roof structure is designed to be reversible and easily dismantled.
